With Hollywood and its friends in the liberal media declaring war on traditional values, what’s a concerned parent to do? It’s “Help! Mom!” to the rescue! This hilarious sequel to “Help! Mom! My kids loved this book and I loved it because it gave them a new perspective on Hollywood. I think this book is very beneficial for any child of any age. I would recommend it to anyone who has children.
First off Im a liberal, lets get that out of the way.
Second off I got this book not for my conservative relatives or anything like that, this was a straight up gag gift. The fact that anyone would seriously read this to a child is screwed up in the head.
As a gag gift its great. It makes a good head turner whenever people see it, not to mention a good conversation starter.
The people who wrote this along with those that take this seriously are just as bad as creationists (well, their probably one in the same).
I’m not sure how any of it fits with Jesus’ words, nor how the use of misleading and scandalous “characterizations” can be defended from a Christian theological standpoint. Nor how the many outright lies and misrepresentations of the broad-bush swipes at half (or more) of the population can be faithfully synthesized with the commandment not to bear false witness.
Sad.
Jesus said, “Whatsoever you did to the least of these, you did to me”. Hate, fear, lies, and spreading stereotype myths are not what Jesus was asking for.
Neither liberals nor conservatives are evil or good, ipso facto, by “membership” in either group – evil people are evil, and good people are good. Both camps, and all other camps as well, have both types and all types in between in a broad spectrum.
Please, let’s stop with pandering myths and lies about the “left”. Jesus and all the prophets ask us to speak truth to power, to be honest, and to be just and merciful – I see none of that in this book.
. . . to the first “Help! Mom!” book, taking on the subject of the Hollywood Elite, and their influence on what passes for “pop culture” today.
The heroines of this book learn (the hard way) that following the latest trends to come out of Hollywood is not only futile — but silly — and that many of the so-called “Hollywood Elites” do take precisely the attitudes which are parodied in this book.
Not quite as funny as the first book (a not uncommon problem with sequels) but nevertheless well worth the purchase price.
As an aside, the tone of many of the reviews for both this book and its predecessor (to say nothing of the tenor of the comments) makes me want to suggest a follow-up title, to wit: “Help! Mom! The Secular Progressives Have No Sense Of Humor!”
Highly recommended!
This book was a gift to my wife and I from a Hollywood actress who has had and still has a great career. She is concerned, like all thinking Americans, with the way we take seriously the hair brained exhortations of the Hollywood left. Sadly too many young people (older ones too) worship at the altar of celebrity and will believe anything that today’s generation of uneducated, unwashed and foul mouthed film and music stars spew out on a regular basis. As Laura Ingraham would say, “Shut up and entertain”!
The book is aimed at children, however all ages will love it. It is told in a clever style with great art and it is fun to guess which one of Hollywood’s sickos are being satirized. There are lessons here about how none of us should make idols of people who would be homeless today if they didn’t have sympathetic liberals running the film and recording studios.
This doesn’t mean that there are not excellent actors and actresses and singers in the media who do their jobs faithfully and who love our country and God. They don’t get enough publicity. It would be hoped that Hollywood is getting the message as we are getting more family films. Hollywood had to take notice as it has been losing money banking on the so called loud mouthed stars who, like the British once said about us, are over paid, over sexed and over here.
This is a book we want all our grandchildren to read and we will do our part to get it in circulation. May God bless you always Katharine DeBrecht. You tell it like it is.
