Item Description

White House speechwriter Marc Thiessen was locked in a secure room and given access to the most sensitive intelligence when he was tasked to write President George W. Bush’s 2006 speech explaining the CIA’s interrogation program and why Congress should authorize it. Few know more about these CIA operations than Thiessen, and in his new book, Courting Disaster, he documents just how effective the CIA’s interrogations were in foiling attacks on America, penetrating al-Qaeda’s high command, and providing our military with actionable intelligence. Thiessen also shows how reckless President Obama has been in shutting down the CIA’s program and releasing secret documents that have aided our enemies. Courting Disaster proves :

How the CIA program thwarted specific deadly attacks against the U.S.
Why “enhanced interrogation” was not torture by any reasonable legal or moral standard
How the information gained by “enhanced interrogation” could not have been acquired any other way
How President Obama’s actions since taking office have left America much more vulnerable to attack

In chilling detail, Thiessen reveals how close the terrorists came to striking again, how intelligence gained from “enhanced interrogation” repeatedly stymied their plots, and how President Obama’s dismantling of this CIA program is inviting disaster for America.

I just finished this book and would give it 4 1/2 stars for an enjoyable read – and a solid 5 stars for laying out the case for Enhanced Interrogation Techniques. Marc covers every possible angle on the arguments for and against interrogation, waterboarding, the meaning of the Geneva Conventions and the legal underpinnings of the CIA interrogation program. He also covers probably the most frightening aspect of the entire issue: the current administration’s brisk unraveling of the Bush administration’s meticulously crafted legal and moral foundation for everything our brave military and CIA officers have taken to save American lives.

This book cuts through every false premise put forth by critics (KSM was water-boarded 187 times! Not!) and the flawed logic of critics who have moved to support their agenda and “terrorist’s rights” without regard for the risk to Americans. And it does so with direct access to previously classified documents, direct interviews with many current critics of enhanced interrogation as well as the brave men and women of former and current administrations who made the hard decisions necessary to quickly build up our knowledge, intelligence and defense of a previously unknown and poorly understood enemy.

I recently connected with an old friend who now works as a military lawyer representing our nation’s interests in Guantanamo. He confirmed the book’s contentions on the legal maneuverings of many liberal lawyers working pro bono to help terrorists. They are not only fighting for terrorist’s rights, but also to change years of legal precedent to qualify terrorists for more protections than American citizens enjoy.

A highly recommended read. It will educate you on every aspect of the interrogation debate.

  2. John D. Trudel says:

As one reviewer said: “It’s time to stop listening to the pundits talk about interrogation and “torture” and listen to those who actually have saved lives by extracting information from terrorist detainees. We should have gratitude for what these people have done. They have saved thousands of American lives.”

This review is a placeholder and this book is now on my reading list. The one-star reviews were mostly nothing but emotional rants. The current political trends give aid and comfort to American’s enemies, and are bankrupting us. Instead of spending money on weapons, we spend tax money on lawyers to defend terrorists and file lawsuits against states seeking to protect themselves from an invasion of illegal aliens. Instead of executing illegal enemy combatants, we give them Geneva Convention rights (for the first time in history).

The lunatics are now running the asylum. We’ve “accidentally” elected a Manchurian President, an unknown whose Radical Left sympathies and roots are clearly with our nation’s enemies. Obama’s policies are wealth redistribution and class warfare. His litany is one of divisiveness, blame-shifting, and anger. Obama tours the world apologizing for America, and he lobbies to build a Muslim trophy mosque on the hallowed ground of Ground Zero where 3,000 Americans died. The Manchurian President: Barack Obama’s Ties to Communists, Socialists and Other Anti-American Extremists Meanwhile, out in the real world, our nation is at risk and our brave young men and women are in Harm’s way, engaged in two wars.

The “War on Terror” to keep our homeland safe has now been Obamafied into “The Overseas Contingency Operation.” Whatever that means — and no one seems to know or care — it sure does not seem worth dying for. This is madness. Our commander for Afghanistan, formerly an Obama supporter who did not allow Fox News in his command post, was dismissed when he dared to object to flawed policies — rules of engagement (ROEs) that protected everyone but our own troops, and sending more troops while simultaneously announcing a pull-out date to signal Obama’s indifference. No wonder Gates is resigning as well. Obama’s Wars

Hopefully, the public is now waking up. God Bless America.

Read the book. It’s a welcome dose of reality that you will not get from the media.

  3. John C. Landon says:

This book is an outrageous piece of inside jobbing, exploiting the real truth of 9/11 that it was a CIA false flag conspiracy designed to legitimate the war on terror. The idea that the CIA could keep America safe is balderdash, that organization is the most dangerous terrorist organization in the world.

And this legacy of criminal conspiracy stretches back to the era of the assassination of JFK.

Innocent readers of this pulp fiction should go read a David Ray Griffin book on 9/11 to get straight the way in which they are being manipulated.

  4. Hello says:

I think a great indicator of how powerful this book is are the ratings it has received on Amazon. If you look, they are all 5 stars or 1 star. People absolutely love it or downright despise it. No humdrum book could be so polarizing, and the comments make it painfully evident which side, left or right, of the political spectrum the reader is. I think it is an outstanding book, but it is sad what it reveals about what the priorities of the people in charge are.

The title says it all. Now read the book to discover exactly how the CIA kept America safe and how Barack Obama is inviting the next terrorist attack on our soil.
