This book was very well researched. Each chapter contained points that were outlined and challenged with informative facts. The tone was neither negative nor nasty but rather constructive and logical. I look forward to an updated edition!
When I found this book in the bookstore I had to look it over. I didn’t find many of the examples and comebacks used in this to be useful against people of my political persuasion.
Most of the time the arguments used in this book fell under these types of responses.
Fallacies
Personal Attacks
Changing the Subject
Bad use of Facts ignoring whether they have been debunked or not
I admire the the work that conservatives like Greg Jackson have put into this. Everybody needs a Political Compass and all; however much more care needs to be put into arguments in this book.
Honestly? Please do not buy this book. Think for yourself. Do not take the arguments that someone hand feeds you; be an individual. Holding to party lines is idioitic whether you are liberal or conservative, nobody always thinks the same on every topic. Actually reading a book that tells you how to react-that tells you what to argue? If you are going to go that far, you might as well listen to some idiot writing a review on the internet.
As Americans, we are guaranteed free speech, press, peaceable assembly, etc. In all contexts, freedom is a process of becoming-that is to say you cannot be free without exerting yourself as such; simply existing does nothing. Use your mind, read a newspaper, realize whatever bias it may have, and, for the love of whatever you hold sacred, formulate your own opinions. Regurgitation does not breed wisdom, use intuition, and be willing to admit error, it is bound to happen. I am sure the author of this book, if subject to a person with half a brain, would eventually admit the same.
This book, while well researched and indeed helpful, should have been called Republican Comebacks to Liberal Lies. A number of chapters deal with issues that concern only the Moral Majority and with which a Conservative involvement would (and did) disgust Barry Goldwater and any other libertarian/traditional Conservative. But still an entertaining book.
Interesting book & worth a read. And I do agree with one of reviewers, it’s especially good for young people on strict diet of college liberalism. It doesn’t necessarily give them “come backs” to be used with professors or ardent liberals. But it does give them alternative ideas & viewpoints. Although somewhat overly simplified, if read with a number of other books it will probably increase the likelihood of young people forming their OWN opinion rather than just accepting the viewpoints offered via onslaught in campus life and classroom…
PS: gauging by some of the attacks on the positive reviewers, I think they actually make a case for the book.
